I am 35 years old, and I’ve been using makeup regularly since I was about 13. It’s safe to say I have tried a LOT of mascaras over the years. One reason I’ve tried so many is because I have very rarely found a mascara that made me love it so much I refused to buy any other kind. In fact, I have two mascaras right now that I absolutely love, and both of them are high end brand mascaras that I cling to for as long as humanly possible because I hate shelling out the money for them.
I have super thin, short lashes. When I go to buy a new mascara, I want it to give me both length and volume because I need both. But I’m greedy; I also want it to curl my lashes, since I’m terrified of lash curlers, and I want it to separate them without leaving clumps everywhere. Enter Maybelline’s Push Up Angel mascara.
Part of their The Falsies line, this mascara comes in a pretty purple tube and has a tiny little brush that is designed to lift and plump lashes from the root to the tip, while also fanning lashes out for that gorgeous winged effect. But does it work?
I have to admit I was skeptical. I received this mascara as a bonus in one of my Influenster VoxBoxes. I haven’t found a drugstore brand mascara that I liked, let alone loved, since the early 2000’s and I had pretty much stuck with that same mascara until I discovered Urban Decay’s Perversion mascara in late 2015. But I decided I would try it so I could properly review the items on the Influenster site.
The first time I used this mascara, I was absolutely stunned. I took a look at that tiny brush and thought “There’s no way this is going to work like it says on the packaging”. However, my friends, I am happy to admit I was very wrong. That tiny little brush definitely does define my lashes, and makes them look both longer and fuller. I start at the roots of my lashes and gently wiggle the wand from side to side as I comb upward and my lashes look amazing! With just two coats, I look like I have naturally full, long lashes. And the best part is that it stays all day without smearing or crumbling! I can also use it as a “base coat” and then layer other mascaras on top if I want, which is something I like to do now and then.
I am excited to have found a drugstore mascara that I truly love. It comes in three colors (Very Black, Blackest Black, and Brownish Black) so you can achieve the level of darkness you want and need in your mascara, and at less than $10, it’s totally budget friendly! This one is going to be a staple in my makeup case for sure. This mascara is amazing, and definitely worth a try!
