As you guys know, I am a mom of three amazing kiddos. I love my kids more than life itself, but it’s safe to say that with each one of my pregnancies, there have been some shall we say “unwanted side effects”. For those who aren’t aware, pregnancy can totally change your body, inside and out. Not only are you growing a tiny human inside you, but the changes in your body’s hormones can drastically alter everything from your hair and skin to your mood and more.
I have pretty much always had good hair. My entire life, my mom and sister have made comments about how they wish they’d gotten my hair, which for the most part was always smooth, shiny, and full. It had body and also seemed to grow pretty fast, which was always a plus when I got haircuts I didn’t like through the years.
After my last pregnancy, though, I noticed that my once full and bouncy hair was now fine and limp. Not only that, but my hair’s natural curls had started getting frizzier and frizzier, and suddenly I wasn’t Brittany With The Good Hair anymore. And I don’t know if it’s my age or what, but my hair definitely doesn’t grow as fast as it used to. I got my hair cut back in March, and it seems like it’s taking it forever to grow out. I got a short bob, and it was fun for a while, but I’m kinda tired of it. As a busy mom, I don’t always have time to style it, which sucks because this is a hairstyle that kinda needs to be styled to look right. I don’t mind it short, but I want to get it long enough for a ponytail again. I miss being able to throw my hair up in a ponytail or a bun and go.
A few weeks back I was contacted by Elence 2001 about trying some of their haircare products. I always love trying new products and trying to find my next holy grail items, and with my current hair issues, I was excited to try their products. I received my EX-3 gift set in the mail about a month ago and I’ve been using the system now for about 3 weeks. When I first received the product I was a little thrown off by the fact that the ingredients and instructions are in Japanese, but all the ingredients are up on the website, so I got over that quickly. My package included an instruction sheet telling me how to use the products and in what order, so I began following the regimen 3-4 times a week.
First, I use the EX-3 Twin Scalp Shampoo. The formula is a lot more runny than I’m used to in a shampoo, and I was worried it wouldn’t lather enough to really clean my hair. It’s a brown-colored liquid, not the creamier white or clear gel-like shampoos I’ve used in the past, and you have to be careful when putting it in your hair so you don’t accidentally get it in your eyes. But once you get it in your hair, it lathers really well. The smell is also much different than the floral or sweet scented shampoos I’m used to; it’s a more musky, herbal scent. It’s not unpleasant, but it’s definitely different than anything I’ve ever tried before. However, if you can get past the surprise of the runny formula and the musky smell, it really does leave your hair feeling clean.
Next, I use a dollop of the Twin Scalp Hair Pack. The instruction sheet I got didn’t tell me how much was too much, so I usually just open the lid and dig into the jar to get a nice amount out and then massage it into my hair and scalp. Again, the brown color threw me off, as I’m used to hair products being white or clear in color, but it definitely softens my hair and conditions the scalp nicely. I let it sit in my hair for 1-2 minutes while I wash my body, then rinse it out.
After I get out of the shower, I towel dry my hair and spray 2-3 spritzes of the Scalp Essence onto the top and sides of my head, then massage it into my scalp and hair before brushing my hair. I let my hair air dry while I apply my makeup, then style as usual.
As I said, it’s been about 3 weeks and WOW! I can see a big difference in my hair! It’s very shiny and soft, and it looks visibly fuller than before. It’s growing, too; it was just below my jaw when I started using the EX-3 system, and now it’s almost to my shoulders- in less than a month!! Even my husband has noticed that my hair looks healthier than it has in months. I’m a happy camper!
My only gripes are the smell of the products and the packaging of the conditioner, or the Twin Scalp Hair Pack. The smell is almost masculine; it reminds me of the types of products my husband would pick for himself. It’s not such a huge turn off that I’d stop using the products, but I would definitely prefer a more feminine smell to the products I put on my hair and body. Also, the jar for the Twin Scalp Hair Pack is a little hard to use when you’re wet and in the shower; I have almost dropped the jar a couple of times , and it can be hard to get the lid back on when you’ve got product on one hand and you’re trying to balance the jar and lid in the other hand. I almost feel like the jar could be a little bit of a safety hazard in the shower.
Overall, I am very happy with the Elence 2001 Twin Scalp EX-3 system. For the effects these products have had on my hair, I can easily overlook the weird smell and the awkward packaging for the conditioning treatment. The EX-3 set is formulated for curly/frizzy hair, but there are also sets geared toward thick hair and fine hair, as well as products for all hair types.
