This week’s product review is on Cover Girl’s TruNaked Nudes eyeshadow palette. This palette came out a few months back and has generated a lot of buzz for being a great dupe for the Naked palette from Urban Decay. I’ve been wanting to try it out for a while and I finally got my chance! Here are my thoughts:
The colors in this palette are gorgeous. You get a mix of 8 neutral shades in matte and shimmer finishes, made to be universally flattering on all skin tones:
I absolutely love the color selection in this palette. I especially love the beautiful purpley shade second from the left; it would be amazing for creating a dramatic smoky eye. However, my problem is the pigmentation…
I first applied these shadows dry over the top of my eyeshadow primer. I wasn’t happy with the color payoff, so I then used a little bit of setting spray to wet my brush and went back over my lids to try to add more color. It did add more pigment, but the shadow was very chunky and didn’t blend very well at all.
After I worked on blending the shadows out so they didn’t look chunky on my lids, I finished the rest of my face and then set it with my setting spray. Normally, I can go almost all day before my eyeshadow starts fading (and some brands I use don’t fade at all!), but these shadows started fading away after just a couple hours. Not cool, Cover Girl.
I was pretty disappointed; I had high hopes for this palette. Everyone’s been saying it’s so great, but I was definitely not impressed. This might make a good palette for a girl who’s just starting out with makeup and wants to play around with different colors and looks, but for someone like me who’s used to higher quality products, I can’t recommend spending your money on it.
