It’s been a couple weeks since I last wrote about our life as a family. It’s been a little bit chaotic, but in a good way: the girls have gone back to school, and Sawyer’s therapy schedule has changed slightly, along with his sleep schedule, so things have been kinda crazy.
A few weeks back we got to go home to visit our families, which was a much needed and very fun trip. Here are a few pics from the trip:
The kids had a great time playing with their cousins and Josh and I were happy to get to spend time with our parents, siblings, and friends.
Once we came home, we had about a week and a half and then the girls had to start school. Emily is in 8th grade now and Caitlyn started 3rd this year. It’s crazy to think that next year I’m going to have a high school freshman!! They’re growing up so fast:
It was so funny but pitiful; Sawyer didn’t understand why he couldn’t go with the girls to school. He watched them walk to the bus stop through the window, and it was so sweet. After they leave for school, he has therapy, and then we just hang out and play and I try to get some cleaning done when I can. Overall, the kids have all adjusted pretty well to the back-to-school schedule and so far they seem to be doing ok. Caitlyn loves her teacher, and Emily is pretty happy with her classes and teachers, and both girls have made a couple of new friends. It’s only been a week and a half, but so far it’s looking like the girls are going to have a pretty good year. I hope they adjust that well to their new school, too.
Speaking of Sawyer, he is a little rockstar!! He has been surprising us all over the place with learning new words. He has learned “hooray” which is too cute; he’ll throw his hands up and yell “Ooh-ay!” LOL He is also counting not only forwards to 20 but backwards as well, and the other day his therapist told me she had number cards with her and he took them out and sorted them on the floor in order from 1-25. So smart! Not only that, but we are getting ready to start potty training, and even though we are easing him into it, he is already showing signs of being totally ready. This weekend, he ran to the bathroom and took his own shorts off, then came back to get me to help him onto the toilet. So we took his diaper off and I put him on his potty seat. He sat there for about 5 minutes and tried, but never did actually go. Still, I am so proud of the progress he’s making. He surprises us every day and we are all so amazed at how smart he is. 🙂
We are going to be walking as a family in Sawyer’s honor at the Autism Speaks Walk in Nashville on October 23rd. I am excited; last year we missed out on doing the autism walk, but since it’s such an important cause for us, we really wanted to be able to do it this year. We are walking as Sawyer’s Soldiers, and we are trying to raise money for Autism Speaks in his name. The donations go toward grants and resources to help autism families, so we are happy to be doing it. If you would like to donate to Autism Speaks to support Sawyer and our team, you can click here. Also, we are selling shirts to help raise the funds as well! The shirts are grey with a blue puzzle piece and dog tags design, and you can purchase yours by clicking this image:
I started back to work at the beginning of August and I am so happy. It feels good to be working again, taking on new projects and photo sessions. I won’t be working past November, so I’m hoping to book a lot of fall photo sessions and graphics work to help out with Christmas. I’m not planning on getting the kids a whole lot of big stuff because we are going to be getting ready to move by that point, but I am hoping to work enough that buying gifts doesn’t put us in a hole.
The next few months are going to be crazy, and I have a feeling they’re going to go by really quickly. Starting in October or November, I’ll have to start knocking some of the things on my To Do list for the move. I want to go through each room of our house and get rid of things we don’t need and have a yard sale, and deep clean each room of the house to try to get ready for the move a little at a time. I don’t want it to be like when we moved last spring and things were pure chaos because they gave us less than 2 weeks to get everything done. Yikes.
We will also have to make time to spend as much time as possible with our family and friends before we move. I know once we move to Texas, we won’t get to come home again for a long time, so I want us to be able to spend as much time as possible before then, so I’m sure we’ll be traveling a lot over the next few months, or having people come visit.
So anyway, that’s what’s going on with us. Life is settling back down for now, but in a few weeks it’s gonna get crazy again. Until then, I plan to enjoy the quiet. 🙂
