Today I’m going to give my review of Hard Candy’s Sheer Envy Pore-Defense Primer Serum, sold at Wal-Mart.
First of all, I have tried a lot of different primers over the last year or so. I have very oily skin, so I am always looking for great products that control my oil and don’t break my budget. I really loved the Urban Decay Brightening and Tightening Complexion Primer Potion, but it’s a little pricier than I want to pay, so I have been looking into drugstore primers to find one I love, and I think I’ve finally done it.
I absolutely LOVE this primer. I have always been a fan of Hard Candy products, and when I saw that this one is oil free and alcohol free, I was intrigued. I started using the primer about 2 months ago, and I love the results it gives me.
The primer comes in a cute little turquoise bottle with a little pump so that dispensing the product is easy and mess-free. You don’t have to worry about using too much; two to three pumps is all you’ll need.
The formula is creamy and is the same color as the bottle. It has a smell that kinda reminds me of Pert Plus shampoo; it’s hard to describe but definitely smells pleasant and clean and not chemically like others I’ve tried. I dispense two or three pumps into my hand, rub them together, and then use my fingers to spread it over my face and neck. It blends out easily and doesn’t leave your skin feeling overly sticky or slick.
Since it’s oil free, it doesn’t make me break out, and because it’s alcohol free, it doesn’t dry my face out. These two things are very important to me because I have sensitive acne prone skin, so I need something that’s going to walk that fine line between treating my acne and not drying out my skin.
I have used this primer under three different foundations, and all three foundations went on well and stayed put over this primer. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my makeup lasted for hours without needing touchups, and even though I did have to blot some oil away, I didn’t feel the need to keep adding powder throughout the day.
For the price of $8, I think this is an amazing product. It’s on par with some of the high end primers I’ve tried, such as the Urban Decay primer I mentioned before and Smashbox’s Photo Finish Primer, but it’s much more affordable, and I’ve found that a bottle lasts me a very long time; I’ve had my first bottle for over 2 months and I still have some product left in it, even though I’ve already bought a second bottle. I highly recommend this primer!
